Our Junior High School serves students 6th-8th grade. We exist to show them that  “their greatest power is the power to choose.”

Dan Cummings ~ Jr./Sr. High School Principal

“I am excited to be joining the Cripple Creek – Victor community, and returning to Colorado at the same time. I grew up here, split between Colorado Springs and the Florissant area, where I still have family.

More than twenty years ago, encouraged by an inspirational college professor, I started into the field of education immediately after graduating from Colorado State University (’98). With a BA in English, I began my teaching career in an experiential, alternative school setting outside of Aurora. Since then, I have taught in parochial, public, international, and independent schools.

Along the way I picked up an MA in English Literature from the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College (’06) and, at different points in my career, I served as Department Chair, Dean of Academics, and Dean of School. For the last six years I have served as a Director of Upper School (the independent school version of a Principal). I have always maintained a teaching load in combination with my administrative positions as I believe that the true pulse of a school exists in the classroom. I look forward to collaborating with families and community members in order to support students, and I look forward to working with students to assist them in reaching their goals.”

Meet The staff

Grace Hokama

Hi all! Most of you know me as the Language Arts Teacher. This year though, I will be joining forces with Ms. Riley to be a math teacher, too. I’m so excited to dive into new subject material with you all! A little about me: I have a daughter going into first grade across the street and she is the love of my life. I also love being outdoors, running, climbing and hiking or anything that lets me merge with nature. I’m so excited to see you again, get to know you at deeper levels and learn some math together!

Social Studies

Liam Mazur

Hello everyone, my name is Liam Mazur and I’ll be the new Social Studies teacher for grades six through eight. I’m excited to begin my first year of teaching here in Cripple Creek! I am a former archaeologist with field experience in Mexico and the American southwest, but I thoroughly enjoy hiking, reading, and playing the french horn as well. I eagerly await the opportunity to meet both my fellow staff and my students soon; together we have much to learn about the histories and cultures of our world!

Kris Riley

Kris Riley has been a constant source of strength and dedication for a long time in our district. She’s a fabulous math teacher who probably knows most of you from the Elementary side. She moved over to the Junior High last year and did a great job transitioning over here. This year she’ll be doing Math Intervention for both Junior High and High School students. She has a great husband, three daughters, Sydni, Savannah and Cassie and two puppies, Roxy and Bean. She’s very excited as she’s about to be a grandma as well to a baby boy coming anytime this fall!

Amanda Wood

Hello Pioneers! You all will be with me for my first year of teaching science! So far, my life adventures have included being an Engineer officer in the US Army, working with Fish and Wildlife Services, and luckily seeing much of what the United States has to offer. I am originally from New York and LOVE the plants in Colorado, I cannot wait to share learning them with you! Along with plants, I love all things related to medical sciences and science in general, and thereby promise you will enjoy learning as well. We will overcome this tough time with reason and community, I am excited to meet you all! P.S. I will be coaching cross-country this year, so be sure to check it out!
