Dear parents/guardians,
First off, I want to thank you for your amazing students. We had such a fun and fast year together. I loved seeing every student learn and grow and get curious. We have finished up the year with some fantastic units. In one, all junior high students learned or improved their knowledge of the game of chess. Shout out to parent Chris Martin for coming in and leading some awesome workshop classes to our students.
Then, sixth graders ended the year by making lego houses-thanks toĀ Patty BrinkĀ andĀ Ralph CopleyĀ for offering some awesome building blocks for this project. Through this project, we will be wrapping up the week learning about finding surface areas of shapes.Ā
Seventh graders are finishing up the year with some projects on probability and creating their own probability models using everything from blocks and math manipulatives to the inventive genius of some seventh graders looking into the probability of finding a discontinued crayon in a box of crayons! Your kids are so creative, it is inspiring!
This week we will be finishing up these projects and even though we got through so much, thereās always more material than possible to get through in a year. I will be sending math books home with your students this week and would love for you to encourage them to work through what we didnāt finish over the summer. Even better, please consider working through it with them!
For 6th grade, we did not get to Topics 5, 7 or 8. For 7th grade, we didnāt quite finish Topic 6 (thereās only two lessons left) and we did not at all get to Topic 8. If you are able to go through some of these lessons with them, I would highly encourage you to do so. It will not only benefit them but also yourself to see what their math program looks like! Again, this is totally optional, but highly recommended. If you have any questions, please reach out to me! I am all about encouraging you and your students to continue to practice math skills whenever possible.Ā
Please look below at some pictures of your students doing these final projects. Again, thank you for all you do! Hope you all enjoy your summers! And I look forward to continuing to work with your students next year!
